Why Donate Your Used Car to Us?

Second Chance Cars provides affordable cars
that enable people in need to get to work!

We focus on veterans, returning citizens, and single parents.

Your used car donation will give deserving people a chance
to land a higher-paying job that will improve their quality of life.

Three reasons to donate your gently used car:

1. Get the Highest Tax Deduction!

Second Chance Cars gives you a tax deduction for the full RETAIL value of your car!

This retail value deduction is at least 50% greater than any other Massachusetts car donation program that sells your car for its lower wholesale price.

We provide this larger deduction by awarding your vehicle to someone in need, or selling it for its retail value to support our work! In either case, the IRS allows the deduction of the “full and fair” value of your car!

“The amount you may deduct for a vehicle contribution depends upon what the charity does with the vehicle… Charities typically sell the vehicles that are donated to them….generally your deduction is limited to the gross proceeds from the sale.”

2: We Change People’s Lives

We give veterans, single parents, and returning citizens a second chance at a better quality of life.

Car ownership allows our recipients to access jobs that are not reachable by public transportation, an opportunity to earn higher wages at a job best suited to them, and the flexibility to accept profitable overtime shifts.

The average value an awarded car is $6,000, and are sold to recipients at $900. Your donated car helps improve their credit rating by repaying the affordable, zero-interest car loan we secure for them.

3: Make a Difference in Your Local Community

We award your refurbished, donated car locally to vetted individuals in Eastern Massachusetts communities.

Your donation helps its new owner break the cycle of poverty by providing access to living-wage jobs that are often just outside the reach of public transportation.

“Public transportation commute times in (Massachusetts) Gateway Cities are twice the duration of vehicle commutes, meaning those who are less able to drive have less access to employment opportunities.”

We Repair Our Cars Locally

We work with a community of local technical schools that refurbish our cars affordably and professionally!

Students working on our cars learn a trade while supporting their community, ensuring car awardees have a reliable vehicle to drive!

Our partner vocational schools are part of our Community of Goodness (aka “the COG”), which also includes our nonprofit and corporate partners. Find a list of our COG members on our partners page.
